Endeavour’s history

Endeavour is a village on the west bank of the Lilian River, in the Rural Municipality of Preeceville No. 334. The community began under the name Annette. It was later renamed Endeavour, in honour of the first attempted commercial passenger flight across the Atlantic in 1930.

Endeavour incorporated as a village on April 29, 1953. Today it can be reached by Highway 9, and its railway station is served by Via Rail's Winnipeg–Churchill train.

The village has also found its way into popular culture. A crater on Mars is named Endeavour after it, and the rover Opportunity has been investigating that crater since 2011. Johnny Cash also refers to the village in his song "The Girl in Saskatoon" with the line "I left a little town a little south of Hudson Bay."
